Several arrested during raid at FC Barcelona: Police
FC Barcelona: It is unimaginable! The president of a club has given money to an outside organization to spread slander on social media about the former and current stars of his club. Among these stars were Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola, Gerard Pique and many more. Think!
Such allegations were made against former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu. Bartomeu denied the allegations. But the Barcelona police force ‘Mosos Descadra’ has been investigating the allegations for so long. Police arrested Bartomeu today following an investigation. In addition to Bartomeu, Oscar Grau, who served as Barcelona’s general manager on the Bartomeu board, and Roman Gomez Ponti, who was in charge of legal services on that board, were also arrested.
Spanish radio station Cadena Ser has confirmed that Mossos Descadra raided the Barcelona office this morning. Bartomeu, Grau and Ponti have also been arrested.
Earlier last year, allegations surfaced that Bartomeu had struck a secret deal with a company called I Three. The purpose is to increase Bartomeu’s reputation among Barারa supporters on social media Facebook-Twitter and to spread slander against former and current stars who criticize him. For that, he created numerous accounts on Facebook and Twitter and started posting and commenting on ‘I Three’.
Messi then turned down an offer to renew his contract with the Bartholomew board. That is why a campaign was launched against him. Messi’s wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, was also the subject of frequent post-comments, according to Spanish radio Cadena Ser. And Gerard Pique was criticized for his business activities. Messi-Pique’s good relationship with Juan Laporta, Barcelona’s next presidential candidate, may have been the reason for Bartomeu’s anger.
Xavi-Guardiola-Iniesta-Puyol were also not exempted. Bartomeu made a secret deal with the i3 company for the job, evading many others on the Bara board, for around ১ 160,000.
But when Cadena Serre first leaked the secret deal in February last year, eight members of the club lodged a complaint against Bartomeu with the police. Police have launched an investigation into allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds. The name of this scandal was given by the Spanish media as ‘Barsagate’. Upon learning of the scandal, six directors of the board under Bartomeu resigned from the board.
Bartomeu, however, did not move then. But he resigned as president on October 28 after members of Barcelona staged a no-confidence vote against him. Carles Tuskets took over the club’s interim role in his place.
Although he is also rumored to be Bartomeu’s ‘disciple’ in the Spanish media. His main responsibility was to organize the election of the President of Barcelona as soon as possible. But Tuskets has repeatedly postponed the election, citing the coronavirus and the election process.
The date of the election has been fixed for March 7. There are three presidential candidates in that election. Juan Laporta, who has been Barcelona’s president for seven years since 2003, is running again. So far, his chances of winning are high, according to Spanish newspapers.
His two rivals are Victor Fonte and Tony Freissa, who dreamed of a new day at Bar্সa. This friesa is also heard to be a member of the Rosel-Bartomeu ‘Gang’.
