Covid-19 crisis: PSL Pakistan Super League suspended midway

PSL: The PCB has been forced to suspend knock-out matches in the Pakistan Super League for fear of contracting the coronavirus.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had planned to shorten the length of the tournament instead of the schedule. However, the last defense was not. Under pressure, the PCB was forced to postpone the knock-out matches of the Pakistan Super League for the time being.

All sports venues around the world are closed for fear of contracting the coronavirus. The Pak board tried to end the current edition of the PSL by holding a doubleheader semi-final in Lahore and a final match the very next day. Although it was not possible to implement their plan, the situation became increasingly precarious.

Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmir were scheduled to meet in the first semi-final of the PSL at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday. Later, Karachi Kings and Lahore Calenders were scheduled to play the second semi-final at the same ground. The Pakistan Super League final was scheduled to be held in Lahore on Wednesday. Play-off matches are currently postponed indefinitely.

The PSL issued a brief notice on social media announcing the postponement of the two semi-final and final matches. The official Twitter handle of the Pakistan Super League read, ‘Important announcement. PLL-5 suspended. The schedule will be rescheduled. Details will be announced later.

Just before the PCB decided to suspend the current PSL, Cricket Australia announced the cancellation of the rest of their domestic season. The Aussie Cricket Board has announced the abandonment of the traditional Sheffield Shield final. League-topper New South Wales was declared the champion.

The BCCI has already decided to postpone the upcoming IPL season by 16 days. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to start on April 15 instead of March 29.
